Parents and Guardians,

On June 30, 2021 the Arizona Legislature approved the budget for the next fiscal year. Legislation within this budget bans public schools throughout the state from requiring masks or COVID-19 testing. This ban has already taken effect.

The CDC guidance, issued on July 9, recommends unvaccinated individuals, including children, still wear masks and maintain 3 feet of social distancing, but said distancing is not required among fully vaccinated individuals.

Arizona is one of several states where lawmakers have banned school districts from instituting mask mandates, essentially leaving it up to individual families to decide whether to send their students to school with or without masks.

At Wellton Elementary School, our school will adhere to the recently enacted law and masks will be optional for individuals on campus. We will still follow the CDC guidelines and continue to maintain social distancing when possible. Our top priority will continue to be the safety of all students and staff members.
